Rank Higher on Google

Have you been struggling with increasing traffic through your website?

Are your SEO strategies not working as well as you may have hoped? There are many details that you could be forgetting, or missing out on. I am going to provide you with some tips on how to rank higher on Google.

Google Penguin 2.0 is Google’s latest algorithm with a content quality filter. This algorithm promotes sites with high quality content. In contrast, spammy sites with low quality content are demoted in their ranking and can have great difficulty recovering. Between Google Penguin 2.0, and Google Panda, websites have been striving to maintain their search engine ranking. It’s obvious that in order to rank well in Google, you need to focus on unique content, and avoid what Google may deem to be low quality, or duplicate content (click here to find out what Google Penguin considers to be poor content). Even if most of the content on your website is high quality, any poor quality pages will effect your entire site. So the question remains, how do you generate content on your site that is authoritative enough to earn a successful ranking on Google? First of all, content should be trustworthy, detailed, and well-written. It’s also important to provide unique titles and descriptions for the content. In addition to all of this, the following tips will contribute to increasing your traffic, helping you achieve a high rank from Google, and ultimately increasing your targeted traffic.

1) Research Your Competition

When trying to achieve a high rank on Google, you are going to want to beat out your competitors. In order to do this, you need to perform a search in Google for the top keywords that bring you traffic. By doing this, you will be able to identify who your top competitors are. Take notes on the positive and negative aspects of their websites, and learn how they function. Things you may want to take into consideration, are the aspects of the business itself, their social media presence, and how they interact with their customers. You can also search for your competitors’ sites on Alexa (a free analytics service) to learn about their traffic statistics. Some other services that can help you research your competitors are, Google AdWords (analyze keywords), Internet Archive (view changes over time), DomainTools (a record of the domain), and Google Alerts (updates on latest Google results).

Once you have researched your competitors thoroughly, you can use what you have learned to your advantage, and strengthen your website.

2) Start a Blog

Blogging is crucial to increasing traffic on your website. Not only does a blog boost your SEO efforts, but it also connects people to your brand, and develops a relationship with your customers. Writing a blog creates opportunities for sharing news, thoughts, and ideas that are appealing to your target market. If you can engage people, they’ll be more likely to read your content and share it through different social media platforms.

3) Be Involved with Social Media

Social Media is the ultimate key to getting traffic through your website. Be sure that you have links to all of your social media platforms on your website and blog posts, so that your customers can share your content with ease. If you don’t have one already, create a Linkedin, Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube account for your business. Without social media it’s much more difficult to be successful with Google Penguin’s ranking.

4) Be Consistent

Simply creating a blog, and signing up to various social media platforms is not enough. You need to put in the time to be successful. Posts need to be published consistently. By posting often, your viewers are more likely to notice you, read, and share your content.

5) Keywords & Tags

Keywords & Tags are still key techniques for Search Engine Optimization. If you haven’t already, you need to create a list of relevant keywords to describe your business. This is crucial because whenever potential clients search for your product/service in Google, if they enter your specific keywords, your business has a greater chance of popping up in the search results.

Tagging the content you post will also result in more effective search results for your potential customers. Hashtags are used on twitter before a relevant keyword/phrase, or trending topic. #Marketing #SEO #SearchEngineMarketing #GooglePanda #GetFound #HashTagsHelp. You get the idea. Hashtags categorize the tweet, making it more visible in twitter search. If you use the appropriate hashtags, along with a link to your website/blog, you will generate more traffic.

6) Social Bookmarking

Social bookmarking sites allow you to upload your URLs, and bookmark them with tags, and keywords, making them accessible to other users. Examples of social bookmarking sites include Stumbleupon, Reddit, Pinterest, and Digg. In social bookmarking sites, people will click on your link if it looks interesting and appealing. Once again, if you insert the right keywords, and tags, social bookmarking sites can help increase your website’s traffic, significantly.

7) Commenting in Forums & Blogs

Find blogs, or forums that are related to your own blog’s content and publish a comment. By doing this, it helps establish you as the expert and puts you within the view of people who might be interested in your business. The same strategy can be applied to a forum. Forums generally consist of people looking for answers to their questions. If you find a forum that is discussing the topic of your expertise, you can leave a comment here as well.

8) Link Building

There are plenty of free directories out there that allow you to submit your website. The reliability of some of these sites is controversial, as they may not be as valid as they seem. However, links with authoritative directories will surely help you with your website’s traffic. The downside to this method, is that more often than not, the directories can take months to publish your listing. If you are looking for a way to rank quickly on search engines, and are willing to pay, there is always the option of Pay-Per-Click Advertising (click to read more).

9) Keep Track

Once you have established a base for your website through research, blogging, sharing, and interacting with your current and potential customers, you’re just getting started. Your online channels are something that need constant attention. Keep track of the ranking of your website, who your viewers are, and how they ended up there. Monitor which keywords are bringing you success. You can also keep track of how often people are visiting your site and how much time they spend on it. Marketing automation tools can be very helpful to nurture leads as they come in (we’ll feature a story about this later).

10) Modify

Use the analytics you gather overtime to constantly adjust your site in order to meet the needs and wants of your target market, and to keep a step ahead of your competitors.
