Brand Marketing

As the world becomes increasingly more globalized and marketplaces become faster to enter, startups can find many reasons to be optimistic about achieving success but this does not mean the road becomes any less difficult. You need to make sure that your company is firing on all cylinders. And don’t downplay one of the most crucial success factors… your branding. Your brand is what sets you apart from your competitors and tells the customer why they should choose to buy your product or service.

Here are some tips for developing a successful brand marketing strategy for your startup:

  1. Get the Groundwork Done Right: Establishing your budget and figuring out your target-market are both essential but one thing that many start-ups tend to ignore is defining your keywords. You need to ask yourself which words perfectly summarize your services or products and what you think people will type in when searching for them on Google.
  2. Don’t Just Solve the Problem, Talk About it: Any entrepreneurship class you take will tell you the first thing you need to do when starting a business is find a problem in the marketplace and provide a solution. But you need to show your potential customers how important this problem is and then they will really appreciate the solution that you present to them. Brian Honigman of Entrepreneur gives a great example regarding this topic by explaining how the subscription based razor company Harry’s actively conveyed how ridiculous the regular prices of razors were and how they offered a much better alternative.
  3. Design is Key: Your brand does not necessarily have to be visually stunning but it needs to look professional and it must catch the attention of your target audience. Simply looking pretty isn’t enough. The user-experience on any of your platforms, whether it’s your website or social media accounts, have to be fluid and compliment the design accordingly.
  4. Be a Storyteller: It’s mandatory for every company website to feature an “About Us” section but customers don’t tend to spend that much time on this page nor do they truly remember it once they’re done reading. But a trend that’s growing significantly are blogs that tell funny and memorable stories regarding the product and the customer. This seems to make the company more genuine in the eyes of the reader.
